Nothing special lidded bowl

Workers comp appointment this morning. Doc says he think I need surgery, but is passing it to ortho for a consult. I had a tree branch fall on me last Jan at work during the storms. Now I’ve got decreased sensation in a couple finger and the thumb on my right hand. Probably 2 months on light duty. Shit. Comcast has been down for about 18 hours now. I was supposed to be working on some project stuff for work but since that wasn’t gonna happen I forced myself outside to do some yard work I’ve been avoiding. Had a couple of the planter beds start to fall apart, so grunted through patching those. Damn it.

One of the little neighbor girls saw me working like a mule (and probably cussing the whole time) and brought me some lemonade she made ‘just for me’. Pretty much water in a mason jar with half a lemon squeezed into it. Whatdya gonna do, I think she’s like 6.

I put away the shovel and hammer, I had about an hour left so I spun up a little tiny lidded bowl for her as a thank you. Walnut scrap base, maple scrap lid. Finished with friction polish and a little wax. Nothing special, but she loved it. Big toothy smile.

Turned out to be a pretty good day.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Looks pretty special to me.  Nice story to go with it.  I hope your injuries heal quickly.

Half of what we read or hear about finishing is right. We just don’t know which half! — Bob Flexner

Thanks Rich. I’ve stayed on shift the whole time. Just mild neck pain and the fingers thing. The fingers worry me the most. I dropped a chaise the other day because of it!! Not cool…

That’s really cool Ryan!  I’m sure she loved it.  I like the square base with the tapered body and the mushroom cap.  That geometry is tactile.  I bet she’s still playing with it!
Cool project and story! I hope you heal well.
Very unique shape....

Not too shabby for 1 hours work... it'd take me that long to find a chisel that would  be sharp enough to cut... actually wouldn't be shabby for a full day's work.
Though you could have put a decent amount of wax on it...

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Good story I'm verklempt
