small Japanese toolbox

The box is I believe spalted and wormy alder with a hickory lid and walnut latch. A mixture of joinery, but with brass dowels used in a couple of places. Finished with hard wax oil.

Was going for a masculine look. The close up photos show I still need to remove a little dust from some wormholes!

Nicely done, and a great style. Bet that will make a great storage box in the shop.

love it, but i wanna see the inside also. this is a tease ! it's like showing a beautiful car but not opening the doors !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Terrific box! I’d say you nailed the masculine look.
Very pretty. Show some pics of the inside too!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

A nice looking box, however lack of any construction details is a little disappointing

Very nice box, I've always wanted to make a closure like that, but never think of it when I'm needing storage. I'm too cheap to use beautifully spalted wood like that for a shop box, but I must say it is great looking.

It's more of a trinket box than a tool box. It's ~6 inches long. I'm calling it a toolbox because of its form.
Nice looking mini toolbox.

The spalting in that Alder really sets it off.
Attractive and great joinery.  Well done.

I'll have to remember your use of brass dowels. I followed the more traditional wedged thru tenon design and by the time I had finished the second box I swore I'd never do them again. Yours is destined to be a shop show piece. Fill it full of acid/flux brushes for spreading glue. Should be the perfect size.

Some of my most creative moments have been when I've had to cover up an error in my woodworking.
