sapele media cabinet

First project with sliding doors. There were a few hiccups, but relatively pleased overall.

I was going for a simple, mid-century vibe to highlight the figured sapele. I hope I did the lumber justice.

Absolutely gorgeous!  The continuous grain on the sliding doors is so eye catching.  What finish did you use?  That sapele is beautiful.

Looking very nice, a well-done job with matching the grains, and a clean design.

I finished with Rubio monocoat pure. I knew I wanted oil to highlight the figure. This was my first time using hard wax oil on a large product.

I'm far from a master jointer, but I think my construction skills outpace my design skills. This was a hand tool project downstream of rough dimensioning. I'd appreciate any advice folks might provide on design.
Good looking cabinet, good use of the lumber. Are curious about your handles, it is a bit difficult to see, did you make them as well? Would love to see a close up picture of those.

I've added a picture of the hardware. It's from Franklin Brass and widely available online. The product is made to be an adjustable replacement cabinet pull. I replaced the stock black steel bars with sapele dowels I cut.

I struggled with that choice. I enjoy making small boxes and typically make my own pulls for those. Here I experimented with shop-made pulls, but they either looked chunky and clunky (like shop furniture) or kind of disappeared.
I think it was a good choice to go with the bought metal parts and make you own dowels to go with them.

I'd appreciate any advice folks might provide on design.

Anything specific you´d like  fedback on?

Excellent result with some beautiful wood!

My only suggestion would be more pictures - we love pictures 😀
I never saw a cabinet made from figured sapele. I had to do a double take. Great work and I really like mid century designs. It’s harder than it looks to pull it off.

Looks great. Very surprised it's sapele which I have in my head as being mahogany coloured. Neat handles.
Maddogio,

Nicely done.  Love Sapele.
