Field Artillery and Cannons

These are gifts for a couple of the neighborhood young lads, if their Mom and Dad okay the gift and they promise not to use the other neighbors cat as a running target.    One of the lads Dad is in the Army.
The Cannons, aka slingshots, are from Penn State, turned the handles and epoxied on to the frame.    The Ammo came with the Cannons and are soft foam but shoot well.   The lids slide in grooves on each side of the box.   Under the Cannon is another compartment for the targets and spares (replacement bands on backorder from Penn State).
The boxes are of basswood with laser etched lids and sides.    The little targets are turned on the mini lathe from maple.   Colored some using a marking pen.   Easy.    Finish on the boxes is wipe on Minwax poly.    3 coats.
Fun little project.

Looks great Ron, a well-crafted box to store all of the fun things for little boys. I bet you will put a big smile on their faces. That alone is reward enough.

Those are awesome. What a great gift for a couple Army brats!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nice tools for the growing kids Ron 😀
The nerf ammo will be ideal for getting the hang of it all before the marbles, legos, and jacks fill the void.

Every kids dream!
very cool ron.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Fun stuff.   I'm sure that they will never use a rock or something.  😂

Thanks for the comments.    When I was a kid we use to make these slingshots from a tree limb that had the right Y to it.    Rubber was old car inner tubes, the red ones were the best, piece of old shoe leather for the launch pad.    We (friend I grew  up with) and I did find some old ball bearings and got the balls out of them  for some great ammo.     Of course round rocks worked pretty good also.    There was this abandoned green house, need I say more.    Already had lots of broken windows.   The good old days before TV, cell phones, computer games, made our own fun.

Well crafted nice gift!  Kids love to do things parents said not to, haha.

No name noobie here

Those are great gifts....those kids are going to love those!  Good job!

The storage boxes are very nicely made, I like the ornamentation, very well done.
As for future projectiles, boys will be boys, guaranteed.
Thanks Mike and Oldtool.     Just so they don't shoot the P-car.

Ron

Fantastic boxes and sling shot.
Thanks for the comments.

What kid wouldn't love that!! Spent many a day making crude ones and firing acorns at each other in my neighborhood.
Well done with the turnings and box making...great gift idea.
Ron

You make some cool stuff.

Thanks for the comments.    I too make the ones from tree branches as a kid.
