Fly Box

Okay, this project somewhat maimed me - but it didn't kill me. Eventually, I was bound to pay for my stupidity and grazed my fingers across my router during an ill-fated attempt to correct some poor jigsaw cuts. Alas, it required no stitches, although I did go to urgent care to get a second opinion and the nurse irrigated the wounds. It would have been a six-hour wait to get a Doctor to look at three fingers that took the damage so I said thanks for the second opinion and went home.  Needless to say, I won't make that mistake again. (fingers crossed)

I tried several jigs and will post pics of the jig that I used soon. The barrel hinges were very difficult. The name turned out easier to do freehand with my router than I thought. Sourcing materials was a bit of a pain. I was surprised the cherry cracked so much. I used some CA glue to deal with the cracks and hopefully, more won't appear.

Cherry that was resawed on the bandsaw, planed to 3/4" thickness, and then placed in the jig and I used a pattern bit in the router to remove a bit more than 1/2" of material.  As usual, I learned a great bit.  Finished in Odies Oil.
Nice box! Sorry about the fingers…that sucks. Barrel hinges surely require precise layout. I’ve used them several times and very much like them…but they’re work!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Sore fingers for Christmas, make opening gifts a real challenge.     Good it was minor and may it heal quickly.
And the box looks  pretty nice as well.  Pun intended.

I should add all fingers back to normal.
Sorry about the fingers but I'm glad you still have them. Aside from it, it's a nice fly box.

No name noobie here

as long as a lesson was learned and nothing serious it was all good. nice fly box. i need to get back fly fishing again. it's been too long.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice box. I like your use of barrel hinges. I’ve got some to use in future projects but haven’t ever used them. Great project!
Sweet box!!!
