Keepsake Lock Box

I made this keepsake box for my older grandson.  It's akin to a men's valet box for wallet, keys, etc. you might find on a bureau or end table.  I added a simple lock here figuring that he would prefer to lock his stuff, if for no other reason than to keep it safe from their siblings!   This box was made from Red Oak and Peruvian Walnut using hand-cut dovetails with a removable tray made from 1/4" Oak.  I also made custom folding wooden handles (Oak and Walnut) for a decorative look.

Nice gift. Well done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Really nice box, like the side handles, not seen them done like that before.
My mistake on the joinery.  I used box joints here.   I typically work with dovetails when I mix wood species, as it tends to give good contrast.  With solid oak, however, I get that contrast because the end grain automatically has that contrast with the face grain.  Sorry for the confusion.

Looking good.  I've just used one of those locks on a clock.  Aliexpress?
I haven't used Aliexpress yet.  Most of the hardware I get is either through Amazon, and occasionally, I'll order direct from suppliers, most of whom are US based.

Alan, try Ali if they ship to the US. The range is amazing, the price down here in Australia is oh so ridiculously cheap, though you do have to wait a while for delivery.  I paid A$12 for two of those locks which included shipping and tax!!!
