Treasure Chests for Kids

I made these two treasure chests for two of my granddaughters, who were 6 at the time.   They were made in Zebra Wood using box-joint construction for the bases.  The curved tops were made using segmented slats, cut at angles and glued together into semi-circles.  On the tops and the bases, I attached hammered brass straps that I made, and then added a handful of furniture tacks for more decoration.   For the latches and handles, I bought these exotic (yet really cheap!) bronze hardware imported all the way from China!

Beautiful wood choice. I'm sure they are still being used!
Probably are, but these little girls are getting older and these are more toy-like.  So I think I'll be looking at making them jewelry boxes by year's end.
