Treasure Chests

I made these miniature Treasure Chests for kids' gifts, although I haven't given this pair away yet.  They were made in Tigerwood, Curly Maple and Birdseye Maple.  The tops were constructed with slats that were cut at angles and glued to make a semicircle.  I then steam-bent thin strips of Maple and epoxied them onto the lids to resemble "strapping."  The bottoms of the boxes were made with box-joint construction, and again, I continued with the Maple strapping.   The latches were made in Tigerwood/Maple pairs using a finger/box-joint approach with brass rods for the hinges and protruding catches.   The folding handles were made from Tigerwood and Maple connected via brass rod.  Lastly, I used brass Chicago Screws on the strapping and handles for decoration.

Nice job.

Coopering, either to a full circle, or a partial curve is becoming a lost art. Something I would suggest every woodworker to dabble at. Fun, and certainly allows you to make some interesting projects with.
nice work on those. a lot of skill involved. love that tigerwood.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Great job on those, they look great.
Solid gifts

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Beautiful Alan!

Great looking woods and you went the distance with the great hardware 👍
Re the coopering comment, these circular tops were not as involved as a wooden barrel with curved sides.  I've toyed with the idea of making a small keg using steam bent slats, but I'll have to save that for another day.

Great looking project. I think your choice of woods puts this over the top. 👍🏻
