Loft Bed for Granddaughter

I made this loft bed by request of my daughter for her Summertime shack.  She has three kids, one of whom is a girl (the youngest) and she has this tiny room that even IKEA can't furnish!  I cannot remember the exact dimensions, but I do recall it being a challenge to make it fit into the room and clear the doorway while accommodating the extra small mattress she bought for it.  She also wanted it as a platform to be high enough to allow her to put a bureau under it.  It's made from Birch, which gave it a lot of strength, and it comes fully detachable so I could haul it and put it together on site by myself.  I used lots of bolts to keep it together and sturdy.  I think it could easily support a gaggle of kids jumping on it.  Being concerned about her falling off or getting trapped between rails, I researched the recommended specs for these types of beds, and proceeded accordingly.  I also made detachable top rails to allow my daughter to more easily make the bed.  The ladder was made to fit the length of bed exactly, and it does.  This is the biggest project I've done in my workshop, which says a lot given that my current workshop is under 150 square feet.

Great space saver!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Your granddaughter is going to love this!
Thats very well done. I suggest you look for a clip on fan or some such. My son says the bed gets very hot because, you know, hot air goes up.
