Wave box

A coworker gave me some cut offs of mohaghany from her son's cabinet shop so I got inspired to make a few more boxes. My coworker has a sight condition from birth where she sees in black and white...no color. With that in mind I tried to make a box with as much shape and carving that she could appreciate.
This one is technically a 3 walled box that I patterned after a flag waving in the wind. Nothing practical about this design...it's strictly a conversation piece at best. All my cuts were with a v- gouge and mallet following pencil lines I randomly patterned.
This finish is about 6-7 coats of tru-oil ( I lost track) and a light coat of wax. No pictures but I flocked the inside blue to match the painted tips.
Overall it fell short of my expectations as it darkened up more than I had wanted but in the end the recipient was very moved by the gift and hey... that's what it's all about.
Thanks for looking

Nicely done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

What a wonderful and thoughtful gift!
Looks like a modern art pedestal at first go, then the bonus of being a box comes forth. Nice creative work Tom !
Thanks for the comments... here's a few more pics.
It must be touched. Way to much detail not to let your fingers do the walking. Love the form, the grooves/gouge work is such this could also be fully appreciated by someone who was blind, like Braille, color deficient, or with 20/20 sight.

I like it. Nice work.
This is terrific! The shape and carvings all work together for a unique creation. Well done!!
