Beerbq swap 2024

I haven't really done much woodworking the past few years so joining the swap was a great way to get back into it. My swap recipient was Pottz clear across the continent from me!
The main item I made is a charcuterie board made from a heavily figured birdseye maple board I had and I trimmed it out with sapelle. I decided to try this drilled out two tone handle to give it some nice contrast and then added the brass feet. I tried walrus oil and wax as a food safe finish and although it darkened the birdseye a little more than I had hoped, it seems like a good product.
I had to hit up some friends for the oversized forstner bits as my set didn't get me there.
I turned a sapelle blank to fit the original drill out, glued it in and then drilled that out about 3/8 smaller.
Next I turned a birdseye handle for a pig tail flipper from the same birdseye board and finished that with shellac and wax.
Now I figured Pottz had just about everything beer and BBQ related so I tried to come up with one unique item. I decided on a mallet bottle opener made from spalted maple...it taps a chisel on one side and cracks a beer with the other!
Thanks to everyone who participated and Kenny for doing a bang up job moderating the group!

Add a tag that says BeerBQ Swap 2024 so it can be searched!

It’s titled but not tagged. I don’t know if the title shows up in a search the same as tags do??

Nice work Tom. I love that piece of BE Maple, the wax jumped it up like it had been dyed. I was reading, looking for how you did that look and have to say, I'm surprised. The way you finished the board is very nice, with the rings, nice contrast.  Is that a bottle opener in the head of that whammer? Love a pig flipper, useful, especially if you have a lot on the grill/cooker. Nice builds.
Tom, love the board. The maple is terrific, the pig flipper came out very nice and the mallet opener is really cool. Heck, it’s all terrific. Great work.

Go Pats!!!!!

Nice set Tom, cool bottle opener.

I can see some broken glass in pottz's future when someone asks for a bottle opener and he hands them a hammer 🤣
yeah one too many and i might just use it as a mallet myself 😂

Way too elegant for Pottz.... ;+)
Thanks for the comments guys ...Pottz has free reign to use the mallet as a gavel to silence any critics in here. :)
