XTool Laser Tools Storage Box

I had lost the screwdriver, for tightening up the belts on the X Tool laser, for about a week. So after I found it yesterday I decided to make a box big enough for it, the lube and the extras screws and pieces  for the laser. I even put their tool box in there ! I like to have a place for everything.

This box is made from 1/4" maple plywood ( from the dumpster). It has mitered corners with tiny walnut splines and a sliding dovetailed lid.
It is 5" x 7 1/4" x 2 1/2" high and finished with spray satin enamel

Nice! The sheer number of your projects is simply amazing. I'd like to live long enough to replicate about 20% of them.

Always a good project when you’re making something for organizing!

Great idea, now you'll be able to find this when needed. Quite honestly, I should do this for my tool components. 👍👍
Organization projects are always great, and this one is done so nicely!
i need to do this but i dread it seems unproductive but its not GR8 JOB 😍😎👍

Finally, a safe place for the Peng Sheng lube!

Tis a good deed Jim. The small parts and doo-dads will expand so you have some room left over to grow 👍
Nice, Jim! I find that I almost always need to label both the top and an end so that I can still read the box when it’s part of a stack of boxes. And then at some point I need to label the other end because I put the box in a stack the “wrong” way.

I am a bit envious of your seemingly infinite supply of dumpster plywood.

May you have the day you deserve!

Good job Jim. I like boxes. All my planes are in boxes with silica gel packs. A place for everything is my practice as well.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I see many of you appreciate having a place for everything. It makes it so much nicer to work in the shop if you know where all things are suppose to be and you put them back there after use.

Hi Dave you would go crazy at seeing all this super plywood going to the landfill. Next time we dumpster dive, I'll take of shot of the dumpster full of this great wood. It ranges from 1/4" to 3/4". Some of the 5/8" stock has a black plastic ply on both sides. I use this for the backstop in my barn. Where a 22 Mag will go through 4 pieces of regular 5/8" plywood, two pieces of this black stuff will stop it! If you ever come to Michigan, bring a truck and we'll do a little diving .

Amazing what people throw away when they don’t know the value, isn’t it

You just have too much time on your hands. Nice laser printing.
Thanks Jerry!! How about you?/ Are you up and burning on your laser??

Hi Ryan, that's for sure......... one mans scrap is another man's treasure. They tole me that the 3/4" is guaranteed flat over 5 ft and is about $300 a sheet.  Sometimes you  might get the equivalent of a half sheet in an L shape. It is great for fixtures, sleds., carousels..etc!!

Nice work Jim. I like having a home for loose parts too. I just lack the discipline to get items back in their home before the Gremlins arrive and steal off with them. :-)
If you ever come to Michigan, bring a truck and we'll do a little diving .

Well, hopefully soon then. It looks like the truck is getting sold this fall or winter after we get a hybrid RAV4, which will hopefully fit both of us better.

The main road trip planned at this point is a run to NC to pick up a rocking chair Elia Bizzarri is building for me. Should be done in early 2025.

May you have the day you deserve!

Dave I can see you at a class. Having one of his chairs is like buying Sam Maloof soon after he married his Wife. I think they call it an investment. :-)

We hear some doom and gloom about the future of our craft, but I'm hopeful peeps like Elia will keep newbies coming along. So many young Women making fabulous stuff I think it's changing a lot, but not going away.

We are possibly leaving our Honda buying years, and I am looking at  Rav4 Hybrid as well, to me it looks like you get, more than you get with a CRV, which she already has a newish one.
Great Organiser Box Jim....That Maple Plywood makes me Drool....
The Splines and the writing looks excellent.

Regards......Cliff.
Thanks George and Cliff.

Hey Dave, the offer is always open in case you come this far north!! We are going there this week after the rain as stopped for a few day. We never bring home any that got wet!

Great Idea Jim. I may use the laser and the new box making program I found and see what I can come up with as I currently have them all sitting around. Need to clean that space up.
Wish I had some of that black plywood, love to make a mini range.

Thanks, Jim. Will keep that in mind. Looks like the RAV4 is out. At some point since the one my buddy bought, Toyota lowered the roofline enough that I don’t fit in it any more, so if we’re buying a Toyota, it’ll be a Highlander. 🤬

May you have the day you deserve!

Can always adapt

I have a full size truck, but for 95% of my hauling needs something the size of what you are considering is perfect.
