Love Spoon

Just a little project that I spent about 6 months to complete.  I have always liked the Love Spoons I've seen online so when I had some green Cherry last year I decided to make my wife one for Valentines Day.  I guess I'll go for her birthday instead since it's in June.

All done with knives other than a final light sanding to smooth up some of the knife marks.  Finish is just a couple coats of BLO.

Nicely done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

6 months? You could have done that during some boring meeting!

Nice! I may try something like this. Last pierced carving cost me a day at the scroll saw.

Nice, Kenny.

--Nathan, TX. Hire the lazy man. He may not do as much work but that's because he will find a better way.

Thanks all.  The piercing on this one was all done with a knife DL.
Nice gift, ya big ol’ mushy guy.

May you have the day you deserve!

Thanks all.  The piercing on this one was all done with a knife DL.

Good to know. That would probably be easier than the scroll saw. I dunno.

Ken,

I have never seen one.  Is a love spoon some kind of tradition?

BTW nice job

Petey

Yeah Petey it's an old Welsh tradition where a man would carve a spoon as sort of an engagement ring.

If you think about it, you could SAVE money with a spoon versus a diamond. New scroll saw to cut it out or even a 3D printer to make a complete set and you'd still be ahead 🤠
We always called them a Welsh Wedding Spoon, looks like others do too.
Oh thank God, George has another name for it, because it took me until today to click on the project titled “Love Spoon,” not quite sure what I was going to get 😝
