And another 'old' box that I've moved across.
The box is veneered in burr walnut with sycamore edging, decorative bandings and shell inlays. It is fitted with a Sankyo 50 note musical movement, which plays two tunes. The front of the box hinges down to reveal three drawers.
The small burr walnut veneered box inside the main box - middle back can be removed. Its top is just a push-on fit. The left and right hand trays in the top can be removed. The three lower drawers are made from Western Australian She Oak. The left and right hand drawers have sliding trays which can also be removed. All the trays are solid walnut.
The middle drawer hides a secret compartment! It is accessed using the small veneered box from the top, which has hidden magnets in its back. When slide into the opening it is attracted to magnets on the secret compartment/drawer enabling it to be pulled out.
The box has one more secret. The middle drawer has a false bottom. Turn the drawer over and slide the bottom out at the back. The three screw heads which look like they hold the bottom in place are actually false. There is a small cushion inside is to stop items rattling on the false bottom when the drawer is in normal use.
It won 1st place in a local Box competition in Western Australia. I don't seem to be able to find any more pictures!!
