A box for Max

And another 'old' box movbed across from that other place...................

Another burr walnut jewellery box, with a complex opening and a few drawers. The opening is in the style of George W. Betjemann and Sons from the 1850s who patented clever mechanisms to make the sides pop out as you lifted the lid! Unfortunately on mine you have to open things by hand. The veneering was done using iron on glue film, which I found didn't like the heat of an English summer, as it failed allowing the veneer to bubble - hence my scepticism about hide glue, which is also heat activated!! This lid has slices of book matched Banksia nuts. It also has some Andrew Crawford inspired stringing, and strategically placed brass ware to hide some dodgy corners!!. Another of George W. Betjemann and Sons patent mechanisms was the inspiration for my Klimt on a Box

which I posted earlier.
It is a treat to see each one of your pieces. This one is no exception.

Does the bottom tray lift out to allow access to the back half?
Thanks for all your comments Steve. Yes the bottom tray lifts out as you suspected. It paved the way for me to design the far more complex 'Klimt on a box'.
Beautiful box. Excellent work on it!!!
