Trying something new

As you can see in my last picture this wasn't the easiest thing I've accomplished lately.  I used 3mm BB for the feature and I used my laser to cut the sections and then painted them with acrylics. I had trouble picking colors and the spacing is off a little. I put everything where I wanted it on painters tape. When I thought I had everything just where it should be, I then covered the front with tape. Flipped it over, removed the tape on the back, applied glue and clamped it up. Even though I used tape to keep the pieces where I wanted them, they still moved on me. They don't have to move much to make it look like a thicker line between sections. It measures 8" wide, 5" deep and 2.5"Tall. It was finished with OSMO except for the painted section which I sprayed with lacquer.

Great job! Awesome use of the laser…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Love the bright colors and shades you got with the paint!
Working with the BB sure gives a nice surface, but I bet your laser room got a bit smokey!

The only thing I can think of to deal with the movement is to just re-assemble upside down and work the spacing out from the back side.

Fine looking art John!
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments.
Bruce, the new laser comes with great exhaust, I never smell anything. I actually did what you suggested, but I guess I didn't get them right or they moved.

Interesting lid on box design.
After being a a Professional Photographer my entire life, I can tell you we look for "impact" in great work.  This has that.  You have made some stunning boxes, but this one may be your best work.  Very well done my friend!

Mike
