Owl on the wall piece

Not much woodworking here.    Took awhile to find the right piece of wood (in a stack of fire wood) to make this....  Cleaned up the piece, removed bark and such.   Sanded lightly and a couple of coats of finsh.    Owl was glued in .   The owl was found on line    The wood is 10 1/2" tall the owl is 3/4" tall.   A hanger on the back to allow the piece to hang on the wall.

The original of this was done by my Dad probably in the 60s.   Granddaughter remembered seeing it and ask if it still existed.    It does, hanging in my sister's home.    So I made this one for the Granddaughter.   Hope it is remembered 60 years from now like my Fathers was.

Think the wood is oak, but not sure.  Doesn't matter

I really like this Ron!

Rustic, but whimsical. I think it certainly will be remembered.

Well, if a granddaughter wants one, she deserves one & it's our responsibility to see she gets one. 👍
Love the history represented in this project.  Wonderful gift!

Great memento 987.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Great idea!  Simple things came make the best looking gifts.  Your grand daughter will love this.

BTW, your other post where you made a bunch of little wood toys for kids gave me an idea.  A good friend of mine is going through cancer treatments and is finishing up soon.  I have a slab of walnut that I decided to make bud vases from to give it to the x-ray techs and nurses at the cancer center.   They were so wonderful to to my friend.  I will post a pic when I get them done.

The Tech's and the nurses can sure make the recovery time a lot more tolerable.   Daughter had a nurse termed the "Navigational Nurse" that sure made things easier and understandable.  Good idea on the vases.

Hootie Hoo. Nice bit of playful, and the Family link is always a good thing. My Great Uncle Jimmy who was the King of playful, he witched wells, and took down Wasp and Hornet nests for a living, well besides he married a nice girl, who's parents had a gob of land, that ended her in a ton of cash. He often made items like the Owl, and passed them along. A lot of them were reproduced by me, and Cousin Larry, who sadly passed on this August. It's leaving me as the sole woodworker left from Dad's half of the family. Almost all girls, and none of them want to do "Boy" things.
