toys made of cut offs for charity...

These are toy pickup (15) and flat bed (8) trucks along with 6 tug boats for a local charity.    They give them to kids who might enjoy them.
One charity is for abused women, the toys go to the kids that are there with their mothers.
Made from cutoffs of pine, boxwood, oak and poplar dowels.   Only the wheels and axle pegs are purchased.   Fairly cheap.  No finish, plain wood and glue.   No screws or metal parts, just wood and glue.
Enjoy thinking I may have helped a child somewhere have a bit of a better day.

The gator and the shark do not go with the trucks and boats.   Just for cinematic purposes....well fun sorta

With all the global tragedy happening to children, it's nice to think somewhere a child will enjoy this! Good on ya!

Awesome Ron. Good on you for helping. Have you ever been in the situation where you actually see recipients get the toys?

Our local woodworking club used to have several toys for kids projects, Some of them were for completed toys, and with them it was rare when one of us got to actually be at the give. Our other side is some of us would make parts for toys, they are fairly simple pieces, more like building blocks than stuff like Dutchy is known for. We used to be at several local shows every year, and our booth was a building station where the kids made their own toys based on the parts we pre-built. That is where I used to contribute, and used to love it when my schedule matched with a show, so I could help work in the booth. Seeing those kids literally come alive making a toy with their own hands, well it's a special thing to see. Once you did, you become a contributor for life, it's addictive. Sadly some goofus who ran for president and acted all normal, turned out to be a dud, and has stopped all such activity. :-O Next election is a year away, and I think Dud will be gone. A lot of the old timers just left with his coming on. I was one of them.
Yes, have given toys, puzzles etc to neighbor kids and always see their smiles and fun from that.   The ones to the Abuse Center I have never been inside the building.    Very controlled for obvious reasons.
When my daughter was going through Breast Cancer treatment, I made a bunch (30 or more) of pink heart shaped boxes with sayings on them that she gave away to fellow patients.    This was over a years time.  Helped her as much as the ones she gave the boxes too.   Never met any of those patients either.
I did find some breast cancer awareness pens on Penn State Ind. site and made a few of those, mainly given to the nurses who helped the daughter through her treatments.   As the daughter goes back for checkups two of the nurses always tell her to thank me again.
Daughter went through Kemo, and radiation for a year.   She has now been told by both Drs. she is Cancer Free.   Tomorrow is one of the check ups to just be sure it stays gone.    She still has several of the boxes and will take a couple.
I posted the boxes and the pens some time ago.
Would do more but sometimes it is hard to find the right person or organization to give to.
When we lived outside of Tampa we had a great Woodworking club.    They made toys for an orphanage for Christmas.   No club  here or in Savannah,  Sav. is 45 miles away.  There was a turning club, in Savannah not sure it still exists.   The closest woodworking club I know of to me is Atlanta, 4 hours away.

Thanks for the interest.   Making the toys for the kids and Cancer Patiens  is rewarding as you well know.

That’s awesome stuff Ron. Great way to give back.
