Hammer Handle

I made the handle for my second Japanese gennou hammer!
The weight of the head is about 1lb. This short and chubby hammer head style is called Daruma and it's supposed to be good for hitting chisels.

The handle is olive and I made it slightly curved(really slightly).
Actually, since I like a skinnier handle, I shaved the handle after taking these photos.
Some people may think the grain should be inline with the long axis of the head but it's ok, I'll find out if it's durable enough(I used this grain orientation based on the Japanese hammer I saw in Japan).

Anyways, I've been working on my new tools and it's almost done. Hopefully, soon, I can move on to a new project:)

That olive is gorgeous. Might as well make tools beautiful when possible!
Thank you, BB1 ! Yes, it gives me an extra motivation to do woodworking!

I can't have nice stuff like that. I would grab it one day while working on a car and get grease all over it.
Made the curve with a spoke shave?
Corelz, Thank you and yes, I used my self built spoke shave.  I try to take good care of my tools but at the end of the day, tools are to use and I'm ok if they get dirty as long as they work:)

Yrti..... usually Genno hammers heads have one flat and one slightly convex striking face. Does yours have this?
Yes, MrRick. I think almost all double faced Japanese Gennou hammers have the feature unless it's a special shape like one called Funade Gennou.
