Bud Vase for Cancer Treatment Techs

A very dear friend of mine went through the hell of breast cancer treatment.  She wanted to do something special for all the nurses and technicians who worked with her during her treatments so I volunteered to do make the bud vases for the wonderful people who treated her.

I found a large piece of live edge walnut at a yard sale (pictured hanging out my car) so I used what was left over from another project to make up the vases.  Finding a "quality" Forstner bit extension was a challenge but I finally found a source.

Very sweet of you to do that and the vases are beautiful! I'm sure they will be much appreciated! Good on ya!
Great of you to do it.   The techs that care and treat the patients with the inspiration to recover deserve it all.
She will be paid back for your work every time she goes for a checkup.   Pays big time as well as just a thank you.

Wonderful thing to do. Thank you!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

So nicely done.  What did you use for the glass inserts?
Walnut fits in with any decor, they'll be well appreciated!
That's a real nice project
Good on you, and hoping your friend is well. I know first hand heath care staff love to be thanked, and recognized, and now that I too am going through Cancer treatment I have been trying to remember everyone who has had a part in my care, so that I may do something for them. Are those test tubes in the wood?
Yolanda,

Nice work with a good cause.  I love seeing the sap wood being exposed.

In reply to the many questions about the glass insert tube...I went to Hobby Lobby for the glass insert and built the vase around the tube dimensions.  It is removable for cleaning etc.  My friend (the patient) did the flower bouquet which I didn't get a chance to picture.

Nicely done.  I like the square style.

For future reference, I use test tubes for the vase liners.  You can buy test tubes of different sizes in either glass or plastic on Amazon for much cheaper (< $1 ea.) than those small jars from HL.

Thanks for the added info.  I've used large test tubes that I bought online and they seemed ok (some worry that they were somewhat light weight - yours look quite solid).
