Toilet paper holder

I haven't posted a project in a while so here's one from several months ago.  We had a toilet paper holder in our mudroom that didn't really work with the new larger rolls.  Thus, this was intended to solve that problem, and provide a place for a spare roll rather than one being placed on the toilet tank (plus has worked to have a spot to lay down my phone so my phone doesn't end up in the toilet!).

The wood used is cherry.  Did some resawing to get the thinner dimension for the shelf part (that skill is still a work in progress).  I was able to reuse the screw plugs from the original holder.  Nothing too amazing but has been a nice upgrade.

Nicely done. I see the inspector is coming to sign off on the install

Nice 'n' handy shelf space that looks like a great install versus something installed in a rush (comparing with a friend's work) 🙄

Roll on the tank means every day a 50:50 chance of it getting knocked into the bowl.

Rolls are probably bigger because the inner tube is larger 🧐
Yep, not elegant but one of those projects that is seen and used daily.  Obviously, supports the use of all the $$$ equipment required to complete the project (e.g., bandsaw, table saw) 😉

And, yes, the inspectors (both were around, although one nosed in at picture time) approved of the update.

🤣🤣🤣

Thankfully, never had a roll land in the  bowl.  And I agree the tubes are likely bigger rather than actually more paper.
Nothing better than a functional project. 👍🏼

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

RyanGi- this really was a needed project as the original TP holder was way too short so a full roll wouldn't fit.
Good solution , Barbara!!! Those big rolls are a problem for some of the old holder. Maybe some day they will be 10" in diameter and we'll all be making new TP holders!!.............cheers, Jim

Jim - well, that will be a good excuse to get some new tools to make new holders 😉

I think your on a roll
BTW dont forget to keep the lid down to prevent it becoming a drinking  spot for other family members

Thanks!

Thankfully the pups have a water dish so this isn't a temptation. Well, other than one time during Covid when I was on a long Zoom.  I had started separating my two dogs as they had done some wrestling when I was on Zoom (rather distracting!!).  The older was down in our "sunroom" (really just a room with big windows rather than a traditional sunroom) where their water dish is located.  The younger was on the main floor with me and at one point I look over and she had obviously just gotten a drink.  Only place was the toilet bowl.  Thankfully that was the only time!!
