Dustpan on a stick

For Boxing Day this year, I plan to give the guy who cuts my hair a dustpan on a stick. This is it.

Once again, I put the pivot a bit too low (the handle can interfere with sweeping up bigger chunks, though that won’t be a problem for him, because he’s just sweeping up hair), and a bit too far forward (so it’s a bit difficult to get the dustpan sitting flat in the floor when you set it down).

Otherwise, this came out well. I’m happy with the brass screws contrasting with the white oak. I like the brass strip at the front of the pan so the wood doesn’t get chewed up in use, and it’s pretty good for a first try on that. And I’m happy with the magenta enamel I used in the bottom. And I’m especially happy with the piece of white oak I picked, as it had a lot of sapwood and knots and wasn’t much good for anything else, but it’ll be just fine for a dustpan, unless someone tries to sweep up some lead with it.

May you have the day you deserve!

Thats a good idea.

I might buy one tho.

That's neat! I've always thought about making one but my shop vac is just too convenient. Maybe one day.
Looks perfectly fine to me, setting the  bin down then pushing forward should make it set flat.
Nice gift for a barber.
should earn you a free hair cut dave ?

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Great gift

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Quiet hand tools, Rick.

Thanks folks!

Cool idea, Dave!! Almost anything can be made of wood!!

Right, Jim! This is my third dustpan on a stick, after having seen The Schwarz write about one back when I was starting out. I’m still using that one I made in 2017.

And the second one got given to the gal who cut my hair in Minneapolis.

Thanks!

Nice, I'm sure that your barber will appreciate it! Beats my plastic one. Good idea on the brass strip.

Yeah, Steven. The one I use in my shop is still doing fine, but I don’t use it multiple times per day, and that beveled bit of wood seems the most fragile part of the dustpan. Having the brass strip folded over the edge should help keep it from getting dinged up over time.

This is so cool! I didn't even imagine there is a wooden dust pan in this style. Once I had 20"+ long hair because a barber I used to go closed down due to COVID and I didn't know where else to go, haha.

No name noobie here

Thanks, YRTi! I went a couple years with my sweetie cutting my hair in the garage.
