Jewelry Box Christmas 2024

My daughter told me my granddaughter was wanting a jewelry box for Christmas and asked if I could make it.
My granddaughter likes animals hence the leopard wood and cheetah like Spalted maple( use your imagination)
Started by resawing a Spalted maple log into 3/4 boards. Planed and resawn again to get to a strong quarter for the box.

Mitered slot for birch ply bottom, miter the corners and glue up
lined the inside with birch ply for a clean look. As I had several bookmatched pieces, I selected a pair and glued up for the top.

Router some leopard wood and mitered and trimmed out the bottom of the box.
Dado and miter more leopard wood and trim out the lid. The inside of the trim fit to the outside of the box, glue up and engrave her name.
Trays made from some old oak Timbers, resawn and mitered. Birch bottoms. Rattle can lacquer, install hinges and felt lining.

Amazing wood Dan!
Going to be a heirloom, great looking box 👍
Great job! That wood is amazing!!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Absolutely one beautiful box with some very fine workmanship.   Well done!

Great use of wood grain, image really flows.
What a beautiful gift!  And great job with the pictures - both the building stages and the final project.
Beautiful work and materials. It’s great how the book matched top left the perfect space for her name.
That's awesome Dan 😎  The spalted Maple and Leopardwood really sing together!
That spalted maple is stunning!
Absolutely fantastic... The wood is beautiful and the wrap around brain matching excellent.   This is a thing to be cherished.

Just beautiful!  Great job.  What hinges did you use?  Are they off set to allow for the trim?

Wow on the wood choices.

Thanks for the many kind comments. Spalted is from a tree we took down some years ago
Petey, this being a rush job and no time for screwing up I went simple on the hinges from The big box.

Looks great Dan, I’m sure she will cherish this box for years.
Nice work Dan. That combo talks to itself pretty well, and I love that resaw on the tops panel.
That is some special wood that you did proud and the book match makes it even better.  Fantastic!
