Big Green Egg Barn Board Table

A project built in 2020.

My metal Big Green Egg (BGE) table that I bought with the egg rusted out
Decided to build a custom table using salvaged barn wood. After planing, I asked for help identifying the wood. The concensus from several woodworkers was "old" white oak.

The wood was plenty hard, consuming 2 sets of hss planer blades and a carbide forstner bit.

I reused the stainless top from my old table but wanting additional table space I added a 13" butcher block of wood scraps I had. ( 13" because that's the extent of my planer). 3/4 oak ply for the bge support. 2×4 and 2×6 frame

Finished with golden oak stain and 3 coats of spar polyurethane. The table will be covered when not in use.

Thanks for looking

The egg has a real neat place to nest in now for sure.   Looks a huge amount better than the original table.   Well done.

Thanks Ron. For me bbq is about the journey, and this makes every cook that much more enjoyable.
great setup dan. when youve got things organized like that you tend to use it more.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Looks great! I built something not nearly as nice for mine years ago, but I think this is the only pic I’ve got of it! Is your temp controller from BGE or is it BBQ Guru? I’ve had the BBQ Guru unit for years…works so well! Can’t tell from your pic which one it is, but the blower unit is the same as mine. Nice job all around!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Yep - I need to get in gear and build a home like this for my BGE.  I also need to do some refurbishing.  The lid spring doesn't work and the wood is falling off the handle.

Is that a large or an XL?
I redid my handle a couple years ago. Just a scrap that I spiffed up. But finished in Epiphane’s and it’s be stable ever since.

Yah Pottz, it’s a great space to spend time.

Ryan, that’s a great layout. What did you use for the countertop? I have the Guru. I’ve had mine for many years and it works great to maintain temps.

Earl, it’s a large. I replaced the hinge hardware a couple years ago. The new design is sweet.
Awesome job Dan.  I've had something similar on the brain for my egg for a couple of years now but never gotten a round tuit.
The countertop for the egg table is just cedar. The outdoor kitchen is slate tile over cement board. I would have done the egg table to match, but it was just supposed to be temporary until I built an ‘add on’ the the kitchen, but…life.

I’ve got the CyberQ from Guru. It worked awesome for a long time, allowing me to log into it from anywhere to monitor the cook. The firmware went out of date and it started having issues (and I’ve got a somewhat complicated WiFi setup at home, which doesn’t help). It’s an old model so they didn’t have a way to update the firmware remotely. I sent it back to them at one point and they updated it, but I rarely use the WiFi connectivity. It was a cool geek thing for a while but I don’t really need it so I don’t screw with it anymore. Their PID logic and the blower are just so damn consistent. I love it.

The unit still works perfectly as a stand-alone, so that’s what it does!

A perfect setup for your egg. The white oak lasted for decades on the barn and will last for many generations in your table. The stainless steel was a great salvage. How did you cut out the hole in it?

Your property is beautiful and I wish I lived in such a place.

Ken, thanks man. I usually have a problem with the tuit , but once I start everything else get pushed aside. 😀

Ryan, I’ve never had Wi-Fi control but I love the simplicity of the Guru.

Thanks Steve.

Dr, using the existing green egg table stainless top eliminated the meet to cut the hole. TN is a beautiful part of the country.

Ken, That is a first class cart....very nicely done, it looks like quite a set up!

Mike

Thanks Moke but I had absolutely nothing yo do with it😉
