Guitar Stand Repair

I  made this guitar stand for a member of the band and put a long handle on it so he would not have to bend  so far to move it. Well his wife tripped and landed on it and broke it right through the center of the handle mount holes. The second photo is how it came back to me- in 3 pieces. I wanted to put a cross grain dowel in it to add strength after I  glued  it and that was  little challenge because of all the curves. I used a Wixie box and a 10" sine plate to pick up on one edges to make  the surface to be drilled truly horizontal- on both pieces- and its worked out pretty good. I added dowel plugs in the screw holes so the screws would not be putting any pressure on the split line when re- assembled.

Nice repair on a difficult shape Jim!
Really goes to show where joinery can create weak points for unexpected disassemblies.
Hope his wife came out of the accident without similar injuries!
Nice save 😅

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Is he a member of the Stones or just...

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Thanks for all the nice comments.
Hi Bruce, His wife is okay but felt bad about the stand .
Hi Cliff. No , I'm not in the band. I can't carry a tune in a jar!!!
Hi Alex...He is now the drummer in the High Chaparral Band. He plays guitar at home but not that well to be playing with the guitar team!
