Serving Tray

tI bought this long Jacaranda board at the Dead Tree Salvage saw mill and thought it would make an attractive tray. I had to cut around some imperfections so there were no voids in it anywhere, so the bottom of the tray was made with 4 pieces. It is 12" x 16" with 3/4" high rails all around. I made hand reliefs in the bottom by the handles. It is finished with high gloss lacquer.

I was not satisfied with the look of the lacquer finish ( too many low spots on this tray )so I coated it with clear epoxy on to the top side and it looks much better. Last 2 shots are with the epoxy coating.

Nice tray Jim, the tray looks great. The grain on that wood is terrific, very nice "salvage".
Lovely tray.  The wood is good looking also.  Nicely done.

That’s a pretty one, Jim! Well done I especially like the cutouts in both the handles and the bottom.

May you have the day you deserve!

Thanks, Dutchy and Dave.

Hi Dave. That was the only board of it I could find at the saw mill. It was a tapered  board so I had a lot of thinner wood that I could not use.................Planed to 3/16" and saved for a future project!!
