Recently completed this music stand for my daughter. Grabbed the plans from Woodsmith and pretty much followed them. Base is walnut and the music plate is cherry. With this project, I really tried to capture the best grain orientation with the cherry and I thought I was able to do that with the quartersawn grain. Turned the knobs myself and found that I was a little rusty with the lathe. Overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Only made a couple mistakes, but you probably wouldn't know unless I pointed them out. Finished it with two coats of tung oil. Not my favorite finish, but it did the job. Yes, the top can pivot as well. Here's a pic of the back. Here I was trying to see if the ambrosia maple would look good for the music plate. Ultimately I thought it would be too busy for this project.
