Sisters coffee table

You may have see a glimpse of this table in my Kreg Blog.
My sister visited for her Sons 50 the birthday and took a liking to my  Jul 2011 Coffee table

So being a kind brother made the decision to replicate it for her.
The original is now 14 yers old and I have no build info nor as to where I obtained the turned legs, along with the inability reproduce them.
I did have heaps of pallet timber available
So the legs were made from  two  pieces jointed and glued together the cut to size
the top and shelf were the same
The frame was pocket hole constructed

the top 90mm wide section was ripped from some recycled truss frames I had.

The top and shelf were biscuit-ed jointed together

I tried to Drum sand it but that proved to be more trouble than it was worth as the pine clogged the belts (yes thats plural) and gouged the timber.

resulting in a transporting belt requiring cleaning

just something else to keep me busy.
cut the underside of the top with the tenoning jig.

Glued it all up and added the veneer edging across the ends

Luckily I still had the matching veneer strips I made years ago

cut the corners off at 45 deg and rounded them and them  round over profiled everything.

Note the list of tools and machines I had to use when working with re cycled timber!

to reduce the movement I added braces under both the top and shelf.

for those interested all the woodworking tools and machines were involved.
(including my Kreg comments!)

Its currenty undergoing Poly finishing but the cold weather is creating havoc with the finish, it has two coat's on but needs more later.
Upon completion It will be fully assembled upon delivery to  Jervis bay NSW

Regards Rob

your a good brother rob. nice work on the table.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice one Rob! You are sure getting the most out of your timber recovery, but I do hate pine (sap) through the drum sander.

Try soaking in ammonia, it'll clean that sap right out of your belts.
Nice table and write up.
