Commemorative Plaque wall

I was asked to create another display wall for the Roseland Community Building.
The plaque is artwork by a now deceased Roseland Women’s Club member. The club had nameplates engraved for all the past presidents with space for future presidents on the second side.

In Sept. 2023, I posted this TV Wall: https://craftisian.com/projects/12739-tv-wall

This is perpendicular to the original project, so they needed to look similar.

The plaque weighs about 25-30 lbs; It’s mahogany and roughly 27-1/2” X 25-1/2” and about 1” thick at the center. It appears to be a solid wood glue up. It’s coped around the edge which defined how it gets framed.
In order to support it, I wanted something which attached to the structural wall.
The opening is just over 8’—it’s 97-3/4”.
The T&G pine boards are attached to pine posts connected to the structure. I milled premium pine 2”x boards down to 1-1/8” and created a groove for the top and bottom of the plaque. The stiles for the plaque are connected to the rails using mortise and tenons and they have a groove along both sides—inside for the plaque, outside for stub tenons for the shorter length pine T&G boards.
Under the corner trim, the pine posts have a 3/16” rebate on each side at the 8 places the rails intersect allowing me to keep the frame centered over the 3/4” thick pine slats.

It’s finished with MinWax water based poly.

Given the small shop I work in at Sebastian—having to reposition tools frequently—overall the project went pretty good.

The main thing is they’re happy. HWHL! 😉
I came out great nice to see your getting gigs.

Nicely done. Looks like a great match.
Fine way to span some columns and make useful space!

I like the pine look, nice shade for a display background.
Very well done!  Really fits in well.
