Watch and Jewellery Box

This project broke new ground with a different finish and some different timber to work with.
I'd managed to pick up a lovely piece of Melbourne milled Sheoak, plus a piece of Chestnut. So I decided to make a box for myself having made many for others. The top and the ends feature the Sheoak and the front & back the Chestnut. The top/lid was tricky as I never had a piece wide enough for the entire lid. What I had to do to make it work was to place two small pieces of the sheoak at the end of the glass. It worked pretty well, however not ideal. People won't even notice, nor care two hoots.......
The glass panel is non reflective 5mm (slightly over engineered) glass. I toyed with perspex but opted for the glass, less likely to scratch. It was the thinest non reflective I was able to procure. 2 - 3mm would have been reflective and I did not want that.
I just lined the inside with a corn-flute board covered in red velvet.
Most of the tray is made from chestnut as is the back and the front.
The finish (a first for me) is Feast Watson wipe on Polyurethane. Which has come up a treat. I've sprayed Poly but never wiped it on. Read all about the process during a recovery period. My expectations have been exceeded I have to say.

Specs & hardware
W 370mm x D196mm x H100 Thickness 10mm
All the timber is from Melb Guild of Fine Woodworking
Glass 5mm non reflective.
Hinges: the small 90° Brusso
Latch is from WoodCraft. Looks okay but the quality is not the best.

Very nice! I like the window being on the smaller side…I think it kind of gives you a peak inside without the whole top being glass…well done.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

FIne display box Kerry!
I think the lid looks great with the glass and a nice trick to make wood wider!
That finish really does the trick for your Sheoak!
Nice watch box Kerry! Unique design. I like it.
well done ,i also like how you did the lid. the latch fits the box perfectly i think.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Very nice. You know, sometimes, you've just gotta build something for yourself. Good job...
Really nice box, love the grain, i also love  a populated interior, lots of plusses here. Wipe on Poly is a treat to use versus all of the other messy application processes, at least IMO, Nice work.
Thanks for the generous comments gents.

Cheers Kerry
