This project broke new ground with a different finish and some different timber to work with.
I'd managed to pick up a lovely piece of Melbourne milled Sheoak, plus a piece of Chestnut. So I decided to make a box for myself having made many for others. The top and the ends feature the Sheoak and the front & back the Chestnut. The top/lid was tricky as I never had a piece wide enough for the entire lid. What I had to do to make it work was to place two small pieces of the sheoak at the end of the glass. It worked pretty well, however not ideal. People won't even notice, nor care two hoots.......
The glass panel is non reflective 5mm (slightly over engineered) glass. I toyed with perspex but opted for the glass, less likely to scratch. It was the thinest non reflective I was able to procure. 2 - 3mm would have been reflective and I did not want that.
I just lined the inside with a corn-flute board covered in red velvet.
Most of the tray is made from chestnut as is the back and the front.
The finish (a first for me) is Feast Watson wipe on Polyurethane. Which has come up a treat. I've sprayed Poly but never wiped it on. Read all about the process during a recovery period. My expectations have been exceeded I have to say.
