top notch james. i dont know who does a tutorial better, you or LBD ? question, you said each square plud is a little different. if your using a square chisel they should all be the same id think ?

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Perfection James, like the pre-thinking for the tile access hole!
Thanks Pottz.
First I have to drill a 3/8” hole. Then I place the 3/8” mortise bit housing over that hole. I get it dead over the hole. I even use a square on it to square it. Then I hit the mortise. Sometimes it moves a 1/64” over the hole. The grain in the wood sometimes draws it.

And now on one side of the square a little part of the 3/8” drill hole is showing.

Now I have to straighten that section out with a chisel and the hole has grown 1/64”or more.
It doesn’t happen all the time.

That’s why I make the holes first and make the ebony plugs last.
I hope I’m making sense. If not let me know.

Thanks Splinter. Sorry I don’t have such a lengthy answer I’ve given our friend Pottz but I’ll try.

You’re clever noticing those crafty holes in the plywood backing.🙂 You know they are there to fit the tiles and remove them if they break.

James McIntyre

right i forgot you do yours by hand. on my G&G hall table i used a mortising machine so every square is exact. you should invest in one considering how much you do square plugs ?

Thanks pottz. I do have one. I like doing it by hand. It seems easier. I use the mortiser for mortise and tenons. I worry about that mortise bit tip in the mortise going too deep. Next time I’ll experiment on it.

Very nicely done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thank you RyanGi.

Nice build and I like the art tiles.
Thank You WoodGuy

It came out great. Where did you get the tiles?

Nice write-up JM, these look great. Looking at these coat racks it's apparent great care was taken in their creation
Good looking rack! Nice thinking on the ejection holes if needed!
