Chess table made in 1977.  Bought legs, chipboard tabletop lined with vinyl, white and brown tiled chess board, with hardwood banding.

looks like you made a good move!

I didn't... in fact I didn't move, that's why my opponent fell asleep,

Everybody gotta start somewhere, looks like you were off to a good start.
That first move is always the hardest, everything after comes as a result!

Like how you has the forethought to splay the legs.

You could have used a nice veneer lining, but then you'd have to make coasters.
your conversation at the time wasn't about your dream of making puzzles someday was it ? 😏

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice...a puzzle in  different form?

I wish I had pictures of my early projects. It's fun to see how things started.
Thanks all...

I wanted straight legs... the supplied mounting brackets forced the legs apart.

Back in those days, available veneers were 6mm thick and rough textured (upcoming post)... but more so, the FIL was the CEO for Nylex... the name of the company says it all.

Table is large enough to have more than chess being played.   It is a nice table.

Hadn't discovered to pleasures of cask-o-vino that you can sit on the floor, so we drank out of bottles... you needed room for glasses, big bowl of beer nuts and ash trays.
