Urn

This was a first for me, which I created last spring. The interior demission's are 6" square and 10" high. I made this from Oak cutting all edges at 45 degrees and then used Wenge splines. I used an Oil finish on this project. It was well received by the family.

Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome.

Very nice work Eric, one beautiful urn.
I have a question out of ignorance on my part: did you have specified dimensions?, or some reference providing them? If I were asked to make one of these, I'd be very uncertain regarding size.
Nice urn Eric!
Oldtool, Barb (BB1) did a blog on making several urns. She mentioned getting a medium sized empty box from a crematory for the measurements, although the actual ashes are usually in a plastic bag inside the box.

Note that I was told about 1 cubic inch per pound body weight. I went to a local crematorium and purchased the "typical" adult size temporary plastic box that the plastic bag with the ashes are placed.  If the person was larger, might need to have a larger wooden box that the plastic bag with ashes would be placed (i.e., could be more than the volume of the plastic container).

I built urns so the whole plastic box could slip inside. Here's the one I have, which I was told was pretty typical. Some do have latches that protrude more so would ideally have that factored in to the dimensions.

Eric- this is so nicely done. I'm sure the family deeply appreciated the details you have incorporated into the design for the urn.

Thanks everyone, as for the dimensions, I searched basic dimensions which goes by weight of the ashes. An average person is apparently about 200 cubic inches. and I added some height for a safety.
