Limbert inspired end table(s)

Hi Craftisians,

I've always admired the designs of Charles Limbert.  I especialy like his double oval library table.  I've wanted to build some version of that table for ages. Well, I finally got the opportunity when we rearranged our family room with some new theater seating. Suddenly, we needed a couple of end tables to compliment the new seating configuration. These Limbert inspired pieces are the result...

Details - The tables are 21 inches tall. The tops measure 23 by 16.5 inches.  The lumber is Red Oak and is re-purposed from some large, ill-fitting Mission Style tables that I had built for a  different house years ago, Those pieces never really fit our current home. I was glad to break them down and re-use the lumber. These new pieces work much better in the current space.

A very fun build that I found  deceptively challengeing.  The notched,  intersecting jonery along with the oval tops and shelves were a bit of a stretch for my skills.  Each shelf was built with quarter sawn stock so wood expansion won't be an issue.

This design is often finished with a dark stain. But we went with a lighter tone to match a previously built sofa table.  Colonial Maple stain with sprayed Shellac and wipe on Satin Polyurethane.

Comments are always welcome. Happy to answer any questions. Thanks Craftisians...

PS - I built two of these end tables. Only one is displayed...

OAK !!! so why the change tim, why not mesquite to match all your other furniture. but hey it looks great.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Pottz - Yeah... The family room these tables were built for is loaded with many of my early builds. And they are all Red Oak. So, we decided to stick with the same lumber for the sake of continuity. Anyway, that's the reasoning. Thanks for commenting. Point well taken...
Good looking tables.    Like the design.    Well done.

987Ron - Appreciate the kind comment. Thanks...
Very nice tables Tim, project well done.
I'm also a Limbert fan but still have yet to build one. I like the mass and strength!

Good work as always Tim!
Oldtool - Thanks.  The tables work well in the Family Room space.

Splinter - Yeah, I've always liked this particular design. Maybe not the best lumber, but it goes with the other pieces in the space.  Thanks...

Tim

That tabe would be a challenge for anyone.

Nice work.

Petey - Thanks. It turned out to be more of a skill builder than I thought it would be. But that's a good thing!  Thanks for the comments...
Looks great! I like the style too…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nice work, Tim. I was expecting them to be mesquite but the grain was not right!!!

You nailed the design on this one. They look great and have a sturdy presence without looking cumbersome. Good job!
Looking good! I'd like to build some A&C and Mission furniture, but there's no place to put it.
