Hi Craftisians,
I've always admired the designs of Charles Limbert. I especialy like his double oval library table. I've wanted to build some version of that table for ages. Well, I finally got the opportunity when we rearranged our family room with some new theater seating. Suddenly, we needed a couple of end tables to compliment the new seating configuration. These Limbert inspired pieces are the result...
Details - The tables are 21 inches tall. The tops measure 23 by 16.5 inches. The lumber is Red Oak and is re-purposed from some large, ill-fitting Mission Style tables that I had built for a different house years ago, Those pieces never really fit our current home. I was glad to break them down and re-use the lumber. These new pieces work much better in the current space.
A very fun build that I found deceptively challengeing. The notched, intersecting jonery along with the oval tops and shelves were a bit of a stretch for my skills. Each shelf was built with quarter sawn stock so wood expansion won't be an issue.
This design is often finished with a dark stain. But we went with a lighter tone to match a previously built sofa table. Colonial Maple stain with sprayed Shellac and wipe on Satin Polyurethane.
Comments are always welcome. Happy to answer any questions. Thanks Craftisians...
PS - I built two of these end tables. Only one is displayed...
