Cherry Night Stands

Cherry stained to match older pieces already in place. Hand rubbed poly. Reasonably faithful Shaker design with the exception of the magazine shelves.
What challenges did I face? The mortise & tenon slats and notched leg mounting especially gave moments of high anxiety
What makes me happy about this project? I destroyed only one leg notching for the shelves!
What did learn? An old cheap plane (Dunlap #3 here) can cut beautifully if clean and well tuned. After spending lotsa money on diamond and water stones, I decided to try the scary sharp lapping film technique. Not going back

more eye candy ! thats some fine woodworking.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Like the colors and design, really fine looking pair.
Looking great and I also like the deep color, too!

No name noobie here

Well done, those look amazing!
Nicely done, drawers are great.

Nice tables. Some planes just some a little more maintenance than others to get going. Once they're tuned they can work just as well as the fancier ones.
Also look great!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nice tables, Pseudo Shaker with American flourishes, but very nice work.
Beautiful matching tables. Cherry is my favorite wood, beautiful both in grain and color - once it's left to darken on its own.
I'd be curious to see how it ages with the stain already applied. Will it get super dark, or pretty much stay the same? Only time will tell.
Nice design and joinery. Bravo!
Love the design and execution except for the stain.
Maybe it’s just the pictures but the finish looks kinda muddy to me.
The finish is crystal clear, but these are the best of a bunch of pics made in bad light. Something I need to spend more time on!
I would much prefer no stain for cherry, but client wanted to match existing pieces in the room, so.... I made about 12 stain & finish swatches to get a good match with the other pieces
Just goes to show why you should always leave lights on in the workshop after dark!
Great looking twins!

Well done, I really like the design and especially the back board...that way you don't have to fish things off the floor!
Very well executed from the tight dove tails in the drawers to the finish...

Mike

Thanks for the kind words!
