What a bunch of bullshit!

Really... No big deal. .it takes 5-10 seconds and helps pay for the site.  People just expect things for free.  Cheap enough for a great forum!!
There are other ways to do this. I can see it if you haven't joined or signed up. But afterwards ...  I think it's a bit much.
Agree with both.   Not a big deal but a bit to much!
Ads at all places I often do not even know what they are selling.
Others are for products I do not want or ever need presented by companies and individuals that are ones I would not trust or believe.

Yeah, I can't imagine not using an ad blocker.

Ad blocker, and VPM here, and I don't get it on my computer.

MrRick

Which ad blocker?

Rick, I use several different browsers for doing different things, and on any of them you can go to extensions, and all of them will have a search function. Just put in ad blocker, and several will show. I usually just go with the top ranked one, and try it. If I don't get some strange behaviors, and the goofy ads stop I'll stick with it, otherwise I'll try another one. If you go off of one, make sure to go to your "extensions management" and delete the one that didn't work.

For coming here I use Opera browser, and I use the "Opera ad blocker" works great. So largely the answer to your question depends on which browser you use.
Well, my experiment failed: I remained signed in and after 24 hours I had to watch the ad again.

The first couple of times this happened the ad was only about 5 seconds. Tonight it was 25 seconds. I think this is a huge miscalculation by the powers that be. People can put up with ads on the pages, but having to watch a video before accessing the site is going to be a no-go for many people IMHO.
I agree Fotodog. While it may be viewed to be not that big a deal.... it is yet another little nuisance in our lives. When I make a post I really try to give my best. I'm sure most everyone does. When I see something like this it makes me take pause.
here's a message from martin the owner to explain.

these ads are valid, I am testing one ad per day to unlock browsing.

just for a bit of context, the ads on Craftisian generate about $2 per day while costs - just to keep it live - are about $100 per month :)

I personally think that watching one ad per day is not a steep price to pay and Google makes this feature easy to manage for me. But I might be wrong.

Already the little ads aren't enough to meet the monthly bill. So what's next? Paying outright for membership? I can possibly see more "Deleted"  profiles coming.  I don't see this with other forums. What do they do?
i suggested to martin a couple years ago a patron membership where we could pay what we want but he never liked that idea. you gotta realize this is a small forum with only several thousand members as opposed to lj's with what, 100000 ? so that creates more ad revenue. i dont know rick i think seeing an ad a day to support this great forum is worth the little bit of annoyance ? i was on lj's for several years i wouldn't go back even if i could.
