Hexy Jigsaw Snowflake (Any one for Naughts and Crosses?).

Boys and Girls,

Don't let the name fool ya... it's another puzzle that was posted on LJ, however, with my banishment, I just couldn’t track it down due to their ever reliable,
shithouse search engine.
While I had it drafted, I never updated it with my revised posting at LJ, so bear with the ad-hoc cosmetic changes I’ve just made on the fly.

As per my flavour of the day back then, it’s all laser cut out of MDF.

Boys and Girls,

Wuz gonna drop my quest for the ultimate puzzle and go back to normal woodworking duties (and the occasional Fe$tool Rah-Rah-Rah), however, my cessation was brought to a halt... and for once I cannot apportion the blame for this project on C19 (like many of my others) but onto Pottzy. Let me paint the scene…
….. Sorry JJ, this time......

….. hey don’t be a sour puss duckie,... you can go back and make puzzles that no one wants...
- pottz
though I choose to totally dispute the words "no ONE want’s", as there are a LOT of "not want’s".  Feel free to PM him to register your dissatisfaction and protest for releasing the Kraken!.

The current PC propaganda boasts there should be no winners or losers amongst competing kids, so I have devised a game of Naughts and Crosses where they both win...  the snowflake design bears no reflection on the lack of competitiveness.
This project was birthed out of reverse engineering, compared to my other projects….
That word "reverse" reminds me of the Italian WW II tank jokeWhy do Italian tanks have 1 forward and 5 reverse gears?  The one forward was in case of rear attack!

I contemplated creating a miniature from the start, with consideration to upsizing at a later date.
The design of this item consists of naught and cross pieces that will permit non-athletic “losers” to compete against each other and come out winners… basically morphing it from a competition into a pseudo jigsaw puzzle.

First stop was CorelDraw based on this picture I downloaded from the Internet ,

I started with a hex based jigsaw
with a "X" and "O" overlay on each hex position.

While it was “drafted” full scale (250mm diameter), being destined for "kids", I downsized it to 60mm making it easier for me to produce en masse…
why the hell shouldn’t I be a winner also! Winner, winner, no duck for dinner!
BTW, the pencil in some of the gallery pictures is to provide a size comparison.

Off the laser, the only manual intervention I needed was a few drops of CA on the frame to glue to the base,

and then make up the puzzle,

Prior to distribution, due to the snug fit off the laser, the pieces had to be gently coaxed out of the fame and re-assembled, as kids (or bigger adults) are not normally gentle with toys.

I have perforated the base to permit poking out the pieces by the use of a blunt tooth-pick,
Pottzy, I apologise for my previous tooth-pick outburst, aimed at you... between your two big toes…

It appears there are other uses for them.  The coloured cellophane on the end of the tooth-pick is for people that try to keep in touch with their feminine side, as we all know that "blokey" blokes would prefer some rashers of bacon or bum burning jerky as garnish on their tooth-picks

Notwithstanding the highly competitive nature of this game/puzzle, I did realise there are some tragics out there without friends so a social game of Naughts & Crosses was not an option… Changed the engraving to a standalone solo puzzle, using an animal theme,
and for the feline pussy lovers,
or maybe others,
and one for those that can’t make up their mind
Hell, let's have a full snow storm with all the available snowflakes,

I have also transposed this miniaturisation to one of my other Hexy Jigsaws

for people that may object to the symmetry of the snowflake and maybe associate it with homophobic tendencies… Hey, don’t blame me… blame them (they are out there lurking, ready to pounce… to them duck hunting is 24 x 7 eradication!).

PS.…. RC, I’ve just found out where Abranet got its name from… or at least why it starts with an ”A”… comes from Anaesthetic…. for how it dulls the pain as I slowly sand away skin and flesh without sensation,
on both thumbs, until the blood saturated my work piece and I could no longer continue.
With your injuries and mine, we may finish up next to each other sharing the same plastic surgeon.

Keep safe jocks and your jocks safe!

Anyone interested in my puzzles (or other authors’), you can see them all here in my “Puzzle Collection” .
If interested in any of mine (LBD), measurements can be made available on request for anyone not familiar with SketchUp… though a working knowledge of SketchUp’s navigation (as opposed to its design/use features) and access to 3DW could be of benefit.
All the solutions to my puzzles can be found at this link...

Christmas is coming and puzzles make a great stocking stuffer... for all ages.
Kids love ‘em and most of us are still kids.

This is cool but I wouldn't want to tackle this without a laser. A 3D printer could work but I don't have that either 😊
True with conventional tools, unless you upsize to costly board/meter.

Unfortunatelly Steve, many of my puzzles are "cool" using the laser... however, parting with the shekels for a cutting laser is a major exercise unless you decide to sell them.... though a 3D printer is a cheaper option.

CNC's are getting more popular, but the size of the pieces and that RPM of the bit, makes a joke of our gun/projectile/missile laws here in Aussieland.  My puzzles rely on the 0.2mm kerf of the laser beam and not that  1/16"  1.5875mm dia. of a small roter cutting bit... would need redesign... easy, but if you have a laser, why?

While I don't openly sell my puzzles, I have been commissioned a few times by people/vendors to mass produce, to give out to their customers/clients.
As Pottz keeps reminding me, it's my NASA backing that stops me from turning down huge profits (have been offered "ridiculous amounts" several times and opted for cost)... of my many foibles, greed is at the bottom of the list... or I'm always too pissed to know betta.
