The Viking troll and I have just finished a new shop project. It is made from old dense dark barn wood and rainbow poplar. The bottom 3 drawer section measures 11 3/4 in w, 5 1/4 h., 5 d. The top cabinet section measures 9 3/4 in w, 5 1/4 h, 5 d. All finished in 3 coats of bees' wax.
ok bud the design is cool but the grain match is not there ! and your spacing between the drawers is way off which right away leads you off ! i dont wanna demean you but i wanna teach you. spacing between drawers is very noticably to most right off. grain that doesn't flow is another. the hardware is a personal choice. thank you very much for posting this project and please dont let my comments keep you from posting more. this is how we learn to get better. you have the ability just keep doing it and you will get there. i could have just said real cool dude, but that would have been a disservice to you getting better and learning. i wont kiss any ones ass because that is not what you need in my opinion. i love what you do, just keep doing it 👍
working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.
That grain sure shows up prominently, especially on the top section! I actually like the alternating pattern there. And it’s got a neat retro vibe. You might consider, in future projects, reducing the box material thickness down to half inch or so. The wall thickness wants to feel appropriate for the overall size of the box you’re making. Usually, I won’t go up to 3/4” thick stock until the box is over about 24-30” wide. Of course it’s personal preference, and it may be an issue of not having the tools to resaw the lumber. Even with thinner walls, I’ll usually leave the drawer fronts at 3/4” if they’re integral to the drawer. If you’re adding the drawer front to the front of a separate drawer ‘box’, then 1/2” is fine, IMO. Regardless, I like to overall design! Unique!
Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
A very different and interesting design concept. AliExpress feet and handles? That's where I get them from - Au$2.77 for 4, equals US$2. Plus if you buy other things and the total comes to around US$10, then its free postage
