My wife requested a natural edge frame for this latest project. I looked at all kinds of boards to see if I could get one with at least 2 pieces of natural edge that was 34" long. and kinda straight. These were the best I could find and I cut away all the rest of the wood to save the edge. It ran thick and thin so I did the best I could to match the widths at the corners and then had to fudge a bit to make them the same. The wood I found to fit the order was eucalyptus and I think the red in the heartwood adds to the red tone in the art piece. I did no filling on it at all and left all the cracks and imperfections for a true natural look. I did add some 1/4" x 1/4" splines across the corners in the back for strength.
It is about 12 " x 32" and finished with Danish Oil and clear satin enamel.
