I had this piece of Iron Pyrite sitting on my bench for months until it told me what it wanted to be- Part of a pen and pencil holder !!
The stone is embedded into a piece of walnut with blue epoxy. The base is maple burl as are the pen and pencil. The pen tubes are walnut also.
It is finished with clear satin enamel !

Nice thing about your Arizona time is there are a lot of rock hounds to source material from!
Hi Bruce, we go to the Gem and Mineral show every year in Tucson. They bring in rocks like this in 55 gallon drums!!!!!

There is a lot of rock hounds around here too. One professor at the local geology dept. goes to Australia and ships back rocks in 55 gallon drums, "Doc's Rocks" is his business (though he is now retired).

Many people have their house's window sills and fences topped with rocks they collected.
