Butterflied Decor Vase

Hey Guys,

I guess life is not all about puzzles, lol.

A friend brought me this basic design, most likely an Ai image.  The original was a garden decoration on a stick, but its proportions looked off.

I had just made a bunch of Wren houses a few weeks previously, this felt like an easy transition.

I especially like that I was able to clean up some off cut material to make these.

As my mind often works, I see things that aren't there but fit the theme.  A little glass chimney seemed just the ticket.  I had some of these glass vials left over from a previous puzzle design, so it all came together pretty easily.  I understood that i was making a Vase in a butterfly/birdhouse theme, lol.

Perhaps the biggest challenge was drilling through the roof after its been glued together, but not attached to the main house yet.  Perhaps if I was going to produce a run, I might create a little jig to hold the roof so it doesn't stress the glue joint.

Maybe its the effect of seeing a flower in the vase that is most endearing.  It brings the scale together, makes it feel like fantasy or something, who knows, but its super adorable.

Perhaps I seek to make things that don't exist, like how many ways can one make a birdhouse that isn't a birdhouse?  Birdhouse collectors love finding another birdhouse to add to their collection.  This one is best on your front porch, or in your home, just too much fun.

Now I don't have the artsy skills to do too much painting, so I found a bunch of rubber stamps that I could colour in after.

After the build, I painted the roof and base first.  Then I gave the piece a couple of coats of spray varathane so the stamp ink wouldn't bleed.  After that I stamped and coloured in the designs a little using brush markers.  Give it an over night  to let the markers and ink dry before adding a finish coat once done.

Overall this was a fun little project to share with kids, the ladies, whoever finds delight in such past times.

Please feel free to copy this idea and make a few, or a shit ton for yourself.

One good day I may revisit this design and turn it into a working puzzle box, but for now, its just decor.

Thanks for looking and here's hoping your shop is feeling the excitement of your current project.
