Kitchen Island

This was my first woodworking project, completed last summer for my wife. The top is a solid birch butcher block piece from Menards and the rest of the carcass is all pine. The drawers are made out of 1/2" and 1/4" plywood.

It’s on 4 casters, has a paper towel holder, a stainless steel bowl in the top for scraps, and a drawer with slots to hold cookie sheets and pans. The drawer slides in the middle are all soft close.

Since it was my first project I had very limited knowledge on how to assemble everything, and also a limited set of tools. I used pocket screws for joinery, and a circular saw to cut all of the pieces. A router was used to add a nice profile on the drawer/door faces and a jigsaw was used to cut the hole in the top to hold the bowl.

You did very well. Nice piece. Do not stop now.

First woodworking project??? Wow! Awesome way to dive in, and awesome work! Did you take photo while in progress?

Keep up the good work!

Nick,

Very commendable work! I really like how you inset the paper towel holder and the bowl for scraps.
