Repurpose File Drawers into Nightsands

Some day I came out of work and fount an old desk on the trash bin outside the building. Followed by curiosity I approached and looked the desk was pretty worn out, broken and as it was made of particle board I did not give it any chance. As I was turning away I noticed a couple of file drawers behid it and when checking on them I noticed they were pretty new, barely used and in good conditions, so I decided to take them home for some project.

At first I thought of shelves or little cabinets for the bathroom, but then my wife illuminated me with the idea of some Nightstands that we needed for our bedroom. So I started thinking the best way and trying to get advantage of some scrap wood in the shop

So, here´s the basic material:
2x File size drawers made of particle board
8x 20 mm scrap pine and plywood, about 70×550 mm
2x 15 mm plywood scraps as shelves 230×330 mm aprox

I first dissembled the drawers and fixed all little holes, applied putty where needed and glue it again using new and larger screws. Then added the legs with glue and screws. I followed by sanding all the pieces using 120 grain. I painted them with 3 hands White acrylic with sanding in between.

The result was very satisfying considering the origin and the nature of materials. I would do it again same way… Now looking forward to find a door to make the headboard
