Toy chest

My young lads birthday a couple of days ago, he’s always in and out of the workshop and after many hints for a toy box the Christmas break was filled, pulled a couple of styles together, English three plank coffer with Japanese shaped legs, over shot the top and made ironwood side hinges so it rests against the rear legs and dosn’t drop back, the removable trays are made out of maritime pine with scrap oak handles, oiled and antique waxed to finish, luckily he loves it ! The hardest part was keeping him out until it was done.

Very nice I’m sure he’ll get many happy years of use.

Hi William
That’s a very nice toy chest , almost too nice to put toys in. Great build.

Morning David and a1jim, thanks for the comments, not the best of pictures, the colour has dropped down a couple of shades now the oil has done it’s work and it’s already full, I’m expecting more hints for another any day now,

Thanks for the kind comments, wont forget making this one, snapped my old corner chisel on the first cut in the ironwood legs, they where off an imported pallet from about twenty years ago, knew they would come in handy one day!

What a gift , bet he loved it . It will be passed down from generation to generation I’m sure .

Wheaties

Thanks Wheaties, he wants to make a small box now, really pleased, sorted out loads of scrap ends of maritime pine for him, might be another carpenter in the making.
