Fire of Truth

As part of my consultation process, I am frequently using the term “Fire of Truth”. I created the name after reading a beautiful Native story about the need to see all sides of a fire to fully understand it.
The truth, as we see it, is limited by our perspectives, our experiences, and our interpretations (etc). The Truth, the real truth, is a combination of ALL perspectives, viewed from all sides.

I will be doing a consultation with supervisors at a centre and these quirky little fires will (hopefully) help them during team meetings, reminding staff about conflict resolution, empathy, respect, etc.

The Fire of Truth

  • I started with the charcoal (a black circle) for the base… I wanted brown, for wood, but didn’t have any brown yarn handy
  • I made a circle of stones around the outside edge… clusters of dc around the edge
  • next was the flame, I started by creating a ring about half way from the centre of the charcoal and then worked my way up, increasing to make a round bottom and then decreasing to make the flame
  • at some points I made little flames by making a “chain 5” and worked back down into the same stitch and carried on.
  • I stuffed the flame before getting to the top

It may not be a fantastic flame or creation but for team building it should be wonderful — even if it just brings the team together to laugh at the pathetic representation of a fire.
