This is the first in my soon to be series of Snaker Style furniture. For some time now I have wanted to try and create a snake chair. Don’t ask me why, its just something I wanted to try to do.
The chair is made from walnut. The 56 inch high back features a cobra up the middle, flanked by two rattle snakes. They form the back and the back leg(s) and are joined to the seat with a Maloof style joint. Each was carved separately and then the three pieces were attached and joined to the seat.
A coiled snake rises up each front (legs) morphing into two looping snakes that from the front apron and a coiled snake on each side (that form the side apron).
The chair is really meant as a decorative piece. The back slopes at about 3 degrees and the cobras is set back and high enough so as not to poke you in the back of the head. Similarly the rattlesnakes curve and slope back so they don’t poke you. However since the back is quite narrow it is not comfortable for long term sitting.
The seat is hand shaped out of two inch thick walnut.
The chair is finished with a few coats of Danish oil and a couple of coats of Tung oil.
This is one of my favourite chairs. This is realllly nice. I love it.

Unique design for a chair back. Very cool and nice choice of wood. Love the cobra.
