Boys and Girls

Some of you may wonder how I became unhinged
(please forgive the dirty picture, couldn't find a brush),

why I’m the looney that I am...

and should be committed,
Lay back on the couch and let me analyse the situation.

Last Night I was watching a movie “No Escape” with Owen Wilson…
It brought back so many memories of my youth when mum, five other strangers and I escaped Hungary during the revolution in 1956 and the Ruskie soldiers started shooting at us just as we crossed the border… we were on Austrian soil.  An Austrian border patrol jumped out of the bushes and confronted them much like in this movie extract, just substitute the word Austrian for Vietnam,

One of the strangers must have been the script writer for “No Escape”.
If not for those Austrians, you’d never be blessed with this son of a Hungarian Fern Cutter!

So don’t ostracise the script writer, but rather protest against Austrians… they are not as squeaky clean as you may think.

Apart from that above incident, as I remember and was confirmed later, a Russian tank spotted us in a corn field and tried to run us over as the belief was that we were not worth wasting tank bullets on.  Fortunately our turning circle was better than theirs and we managed to reach the protection of a forest before they improved their manoeuvrability.

Once we crossed the border, the blokes had a few bottles of snaps in their backpacks and once we were in safety, the group sat down to celebrate.  While they were singing and dancing and making a bloody fool of themselves, I saw this lonely bottle crying to be drunk… took a few sips and had to be carried for the rest of the trip… and mum always wondered where/when I started my drinking regimentation.

What even is that thing for?  What else does he keep in a box?  His mind is twisted when he is sober and increases with vino...what is next?  None of us even speak Aussie...will we even be able to tell WTH he is talking about?  Do any of the other Aussie on here speak his intox dialect?  I gotta go take a Valium.

I too saw/watched the same movie

I didn't watch all of it as I couldn't handle the violent nature of it and turned it off.
Next morning I was so disturbed by it I checked out what it was all about,
The basic break down.
Owen went to a "asian" city to take up a job as an engineer only to find out from Pierce that the western world had taken advantage of under developed county by exploiting a high cost of water of which they cannot afford.
hence the civil population  rebel against Westies and the Gov
It was filmed in Thailand and depicted backward Kemer speaking Gangs of which painted a very poor image of Thailand and Cambodia, resulting of the banning of the movie in those countries.
I believe they escaped to Vietnam and it ended similar to how Alex depicted his families escape from Russia.
Having Visited all 3 countries (minus Vietnam) I found the movie so disturbing I can see why it was banned.
Yes there is a element of badies in every country including ours.
However with sensible travel plans you will come to no harm there but demonstrate common sense in your travels, or risk death from stingrays, crocodiles and sharks!   ... not forgetting Dingoes!

Hey guys, unfortunately what happened to me was 100% true, though the posting may have been spurred on by a vino...

The beauty of it is that after all these years I am able to "laugh" about it, though the movie made me realise how naive a 7 yo duck used to be.

Not that unfortunate- you made it out. My wife has/had relatives in Hungary (and then Czechoslovakia, after the borders were gerrymandered, post-WW2) who did not.

not needed for a cask drinker.

My apologies Alex for doubting your story. You were one of the lucky ones to escape the awfulness of war, like so many others.
