More Veneer Pendant Lamps #2: Basic Structure

Like the spiral pendant, my plan is to use cherry for the ribs and top and bottom caps, anigre veneer, and a BBP ring as the base for the removable bottom cap.  I use the CNC for most of the pieces in this lamp, but the same (or similar) structure could be made with other tools.  Maybe not as easily, but it could be done.

While the plan was for 3 pendants, I started with parts for just the first to work out the kinks in the process.  I started out cutting out the set of 5 ribs. The bottom rib in the photo has slightly wider slots - this is where the overlapping ends of the veneer strip will be hidden.

The bottom of the lamp needs to be open to provide access to the socket, and the BBP ring provides some strength even though it looks a little fragile.

The edge of the ring has recesses for some small magnets that will hold the decorative bottom cover.  Each tab on the ribs fits into a notch on ply ring.

All parts are just being dry-fitted so that I can check proportions before gluing anything.

The top cap has an open structure to allow as much light out as possible.

And there's the basic structure.
That is going to be a good-looking lamp, Ross.
