Ramblings from a South Central Texas Wood Butcher #8: Passing it on

If you’ve read any of my earlier posts, you heard that I taught shop for years, some of the best times for sure. I’ve gotten messages and photos from past students, sharing what they’ve done over the years. Great to see that they actually learned something from me and are continuing to enjoy “Wooding.”

What’s really neat, though, is my two kids involvement in woodworking. YEARS ago, my son and I made replacement Bed Wood sets for a company, for antique Chevy and GMC trucks. We ran hundreds of feet of wood through the radial arm saw and the router, not to forget the sabre saw. After a period out of “wooding” my son has gotten back into it, making some valences and doing trim in the house.

Last year, the daughter, about to be 30, had been doing some small wood projects around the house, so she got a sabre saw. This year, she messages me, a circular saw would be a great birthday present. So, that’s what she’s going to get. Gotta do some shopping today. :-)

After seeing the T-I-F-F-N-I-E sign, she voice interest in getting deeper into wood. I think there might be router under the tree this year. Maybe a small table saw for her birthday next year. Pretty cool that the kids are also into wood.

Happy Wooding, everybody!

Very cool. I’ll take a domino cutter

Yes. Pay it forward. The farmer up the road has two boys. One of them always makes a point of talking to me. I should ask him into the shop, I think.
