Jewelry Box

I started this project earlier this year but put it aside when the warmer weather arrived to focus on outdoor projects. I’ve finally had a chance to get back and finish it.

This jewelry box is based on the plans for the Moon Jewelry Box from Mike Pekovich’s wonderful book The Why and How of Woodworking. This is the third project I have made from this book.

My version includes a marquetry panel I made while at the Canadian School of French Marquetry (aka shipwright) a few years ago.

The box is made from (sometimes wormy) butternut and measures 22” long x 9.5” tall x 7” deep.
The dark side of the box is Walnut. The little knobs, turned on the lathe and drill press, are also walnut. The drawers in the light side are butternut. All of the dovetails were cut by hand (saw and chisels).

Its finished with a few coats of Danish oil followed several coats of shellac.

I hope you enjoy my rudimentary little video.

Beautiful and so well executed.

What a beautiful piece! I love the change from the butternut to the walnut-a nice surprise. But the marquetry makes it for me!

Class work Peter! (yes pun intended)
Seriously, really nicely done!
